the Douarnenez registered Narval DZ 185092 is seen here trawling for langoustine on the Smalls Ground around 1983 - these paintings, by J Pedler of Truro, are in the private collection of Roy Shelley, friend of several Breton fishermen - the Narval was broken up and scrapped in recent weeks.
I saw the Amalthee up on the quay in Douarnenez several years ago looking quite resplendent in her bright colours and it is disappointing to know she is now no longer. Such is the short life of most boats. I have had a life long interest in ships, especially warships, and served for some years in the RN, and it is always a sad occasion when ships you are so familiar with suddenly and after such a short period of time, are sold off or scrapped - and for such small amounts of money. Bravo the paintings, I say!
